Job Description

The Cathedral is seeking a part-time  Content Specialist to contract until the end of the year. Reporting to the Director of Communications you will write material for the weekly newsletter, the Cathedral website, and our various social media platforms. As needed you may also create, edit and upload short videos for web and social media and upload audio to one of our sermon podcasts. You will learn how to use the Cathedral’s live streaming technology and occasionally run live streams as part of the Cathedral’s livestream team.  You will be part of a team that works together to keep the Cathedral website content up to date.

You are

A bit of a swiss army knife. You can write clear, engaging text for a variety of platforms: social media, digital newsletters, and print stories. You are at home with social media and understand what types of posts work best on different platforms. You are comfortable shooting video on your phone, doing basic video and audio editing. While you’re at home with digital content, you are also comfortable producing print content. You have knowledge and understanding of the  Christian faith tradition and the church world, and can translate these things into words and images that speak to 21st century, post-pandemic people.

Skills

-Strong writing skills. You know the difference between “you’re” and “your” 

-Strong knowledge of social media platforms (facebook, instagram, twitter, tik tok) and what type of content works best on which network. 

-Basic video skills (iphone or similar, adobe premiere, or similar) 

-Solid knowledge of GSuite or similar

-Basic audio editing / podcast skills (Audition, Audacity or similar) 

-Knowledge of Hootsuite, Eventbrite, Canva, or similar

Attributes You Possess 

-At least two  years experience in a similar role (content creator/specialist, multimedia journalist, or similar) 

-Previous live streaming experience an asset

-Unfazed by deadlines and able to prioritize tasks 

-Can move easily between working independently and in a team setting 

-Able to see possibilities and stories everywhere 

-Able and willing learn how to operate new platforms and technologies 

-Knowledge and understanding of the Christian tradition and an ability to translate it into words and images that make sense to the people of today. 

Hours and Compensation

This is a temporary, contract position to the end of 2021 with the possibility of being extended and hours expanded in 2022. 

Start Date: Immediate 

Hours: 10-12hrs / week 

Pay Range: $19 - $21 / hr
