Compline is a short, sung, evening prayer service that is meant to signal the end to the day. At the Cathedral much of this service is sung by the choir. However, as the choir offers its music, we are released from the need to form our own words and phrases - helping create space to experience God, present in our worship.

The practice of saying or praying this final prayer of the day can be tracked to the sixth century when St. Benedict laid out the rules about how monks should live, work, and pray. Compline is a traditional prayer in several Christian churches. At Christ Church Cathedral Compline is prayed at 8pm on Sunday evenings and is livestreamed here. The women's and men's scholae of the Cathedral choir alternately lead the singing of this office of prayer. All are welcome.
