Christ Church Cathedral Vancouver is seeking its next Director of Music and inviting applications.

The Cathedral has a proud tradition of musical excellence, led by two long-serving Directors of Music: Rupert Lang and his predecessor Patrick Wedd, who together have served us brilliantly for almost fifty years. Our next Director of Music will be someone who is committed to building on this legacy to further their own career and the Cathedral’s musical life in Vancouver, a vibrant and diverse city, with a rich musical life, especially in choral music.

A full-time position is offered; however, this is open to negotiation should the successful applicant wish to protect up to a quarter of their time for other professional commitments. It is intended that the Director of Music will hire a part-time musical associate, with complementary skills, to assist in building the music program to meet the needs of a diverse and growing congregation and open new doors to the surrounding community. Working collaboratively with clergy, staff, professional singers, and lay choir members, the Director of Music will continue to cultivate excellence in a music program that expresses the full range of Anglican and other musical liturgies. This position is one of liturgical ministry and pastoral connection with the choir, the congregation, the diocese, and the wider Vancouver community.

Deadline for applications is January 15, 2024. Please direct inquiries for an application package to the Rev. Adam Dawkins at adamd@thecathedral.ca
