Psalm  Lift my soul to you, O God - Psalm 25.   Music: TENDER CARE, John Bell (Iona Community)

I lift my soul to you, O God.
In you I trust, in you alone.
Save me from shame and from defeat lest my opponents should gloat over me.

No one whoever trusts in you
shall find their hope is put to shame. Shame comes to those who turn away, who spurn the goodness of the living God.

Make known your paths to me, O God; show me the ways which I should take. Teach me and lead me, faithful God;
you are my saviour, and my hope is in you.

Remember God, your tender care, your never failing, constant love. Forgive my sins, my youth’s offence; in love and kindness remember me.

Presisder Let us give thanks to God our Creator.

Presider Creator, you made our world beautiful and good. You made us to live in right relationship with you and all creation.
You sent Jesus to live among us and show us what you are like. We give all thanks and praise to you, our true and loving God. You laid the foundations of the earth and enclosed the seas. You brought forth all creatures and gave breath to humankind. Wondrous are you, Holy One.All you create is a sign of hope for our journey. And so, we join with the heavenly beingsand all of creation as we sing:

Sanctus      Advent Mass       Music: Rupert Lang

Presider Glory and honour are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent. Of your grace, you sent Jesus
to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign, and to give himself for us.

Through Jesus Christ you have reconciled us to you and restored the glory you intended for us.

On the night before he died, Jesus ate supper with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying:

“Take and eat. This is my very self, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
Then he took the cup of wine, again he gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying:

“Drink it all of you. This cup is a new covenant poured out for you and all people. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
And so, we remember: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, and, longing for Christ’s coming again in glory, we present these gifts to you.

Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts, so that we who share this bread and wine
may be a people of hope, justice and love. Draw us together in Christ, and, in the fullness of time, gather us with all your people into the joy of your eternal home. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator and give you our unending praise. Amen.

Presider In the spirit of Jesus’ teaching, let us pray All Abba, God in heaven,

All Holy is your name,
may your kingdom come,
may your will be done,
here on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us what we need for today.
Forgive us as we forgive others.
Save us from times of trial,
and deliver us from all evil.
For all authority and power and glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread

Presider We break this bread to share in the life of Christ
All We, though many, are one, for we share this one bread.

Presider This is the bread of life given in love for us.
This is the cup of restored relationship with God.
These are the gifts of God for all God’s people.

All Amen

Share the Gifts

If you know the brokenness of life, its fractures within and its division without, then you have participated in the broken body of Christ and you are invited to share in Communion.

If you are not physically receiving Communion, then offer this prayer:
In union, O God, with all your faithful people gathered wherever the eucharist is celebrated this day, I offer you praise and thanksgiving for creation and all the blessings of this life, for the redemption given to us through the life, death and resurrection of Christ, and for the means of grace and the hope of glory. I pray you come into my heart, my soul and my mind. Let nothing separate me from you. May I serve you in this life until, by your grace, I come to your promised reign of justice and peace; through Christ and in the unity of the Spirit. Amen.

During Communion     Benedictus (Advent Mass)
