Let Our Light ShineSubmitted on behalf of Andrea Gailus I love my church community and have always found it so fulfilling to serve it in whatever ways I am able. I recently worked on a project of compiling the names of the volunteers that do the work of assisting staff and clergy to keep up the good work accomplished through God’s grace in this place and thought how you might want to share in that lovely opportunity. Do you know all the ministry and volunteer opportunities there are? We identified 40 different groups that have anywhere from 1 to 40 people on their rosters. Do you know how many lay people it takes each week to serve this holy place? One of the jobs I do is come into the office to offer admin support and to print off bulletins for Sunday services. I am a member of the Altar Guild as a “laundry lady!” which means one Sunday a month I take the linens from that week’s services home to wash, iron and return the next Sunday. If you like ironing then that is a quiet ministry that you might want to explore by speaking to Sarah Nation. Do you know the power of a prayerful time with our prayer team? Speak to one of the team members about it. Invitations are made each fall to discern who might be a good fit for that ministry. Healing Touch is a ministry with training through the Healing Pathways Association and offers several levels of training and a caring group to practice the discipline. There are brochures in the lower-level hallway. The Sundays@4 services have special choirs with ordinary folks singing in them. Open Cathedral Narthex Visitors are always looking for daytime hosts. There certainly are several of you in the pews who may be interested in being involved in a new ministry. I volunteer because it gives me joy and a sense of purpose and commitment to something larger than myself. Some ministries are by invitation and you are always welcome to indicate a desire to be part of one of those ministries. The rest are wide open for you to offer your services. Everything from our advocacy groups to office help, knitting, visiting the shut-ins, narthex greeters, and Maundy Café cooking and serving. How we reach out to our own community and to the wider community is a testament to our faith journey moving us to serve God’s people and share the light placed within each one of us. Our baptismal candidates and newcomers are welcome and encouraged to experience the love of God in this place. Will some of you come on board as a new volunteer? Contact Nicky Seppala the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@thecathedral.ca or look at the website or contact the church office at reception@thecathedral.ca for information on how you can get involved. Better yet just ask the person beside you if they know where you can serve…… Blessings, Andrea Gailus |

Volunteers Needed!
The Altar Guild Ministry is seeking volunteers to help care for the beauty and aesthetics of our sacred worship space. This ministry includes tending floral arrangements and preparing the sanctuary for worship services. The Sunday Greeting Ministry also needs volunteers to welcome congregants before services, distribute bulletins, and assist with collecting and counting donations. If you are interested in serving in either (or both) of these ministries, please complete and submit our online volunteer application form here. |
