Praying for peace and freedom in BethlehemSubmitted on behalf of Hadani Ditmars Why is there a disconnect between Christians in the West and the birthplace of Christ? While Muslims everywhere know where Mecca is, many Christians are at a loss to describe Bethlehem as a city in Palestine, let alone one under siege. Many Palestinian Christians feel abandoned by their Western brethren. There is often a jarring dissociation between the place and the biblical ideal—both real and mythic, actual and... Charlotte Murray (1929-2025)Submitted on behalf of Ian Birtwell With sadness, we share the news of the death of Charlotte Murray, renowned Heritage Architect and friend of the Cathedral. Through her firm, the Iredale Architecture Group, Charlotte was the Architect of record for the Cathedral’s interior heritage restoration completed in 2003/4. Charlotte was a sensitive yet pragmatic heritage conservationist, and led the Cathedral team through the design development, and the intensive discussions and negotiations with Vancouver City Planning and the Vancouver Heritage Commission from 1995 to 2004. Her efforts helped produce the stunning interior restoration, restoring the original nave flooring, the hammer beams and structural elements, revealing and cleaning the cedar ceiling, and preserving many other heritage elements. Charlotte sensitively introduced new elements such as ramps and an extended Altar platform, a new Organ loft and gallery, and incorporating and hiding key seismic and utility components. Her Memorial service and a Celebration of her Life will be held 11:30 AM Dec 1 at St. Philip's Anglican Church, 3737 West 27th Avenue. Link to her obituary: |
