Christ Church Cathedral Vancouver — A Cathedral for the City

DEAN’S CHARGE to VESTRY

A cathedral is not simply a larger parish with more moving parts. It is a public church. It belongs, in a particular way, to the whole city.

Our own website names this plainly: “The Cathedral is not only a place you attend, but a place that attends to the world.” And ...

Upper Zoom Bible Study

Upper Zoom Bible Study

The weekly Upper Zoom Bible Study is held on Thursdays at 7:30 PM. We gather online for a time of learning, reflection, and conversation about the upcoming Sunday's readings, using a method inspired by Lectio Divina. It’s a wonderful opportunity to grow in faith and connect with one another, even from the comfort of home.

All are welcome to BYOB (Bring Your Own Bible) and join!

Please email The Rev. Claude St-Denis, claude@thecathedral.ca, if you would like more information.

Godly Play

Godly Play

Children are invited to come downstairs to the Park Room for a Godly Play* lesson. They will come back upstairs and rejoin parents for communion.

*Godly Play is a beautiful and thoughtful Montessori-informed approach that nurtures children's spirituality as they engage with the stories and sacraments of the church. It was developed by Dr. Jerome Berryman, an American Anglican priest.

Morning Prayer

Morning Prayer

Every Weekday from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM

Are you looking for a way to deepen your spiritual life? Every weekday morning at 9:30 AM the Cathedral holds Morning Prayer.

We will follow a simple liturgy with a Psalm, a Reading, Prayer and Silence. This form of regular, daily prayer is used in the Anglican Communion and a number of other church denominations. All are welcome to start the day in prayer with us.

Morning Prayer takes place online via Zoom. To join in, please click HERE at 9:30 AM on weekdays.

Let Our Light Shine

Let Our Light Shine

Submitted on behalf of Andrea Gailus

I love my church community and have always found it so fulfilling to serve it in whatever ways I am able. I recently worked on a project of compiling the names of the volunteers that do the work of assisting staff and clergy to keep up the good work accomplished through God’s grace in this place and thought how you might want to share in that lovely opportunity. Do you know all the ministry and volunteer opportunities there are? We identified 40 different groups that have anywhere from 1 to 40 people on their rosters. Do you know how many lay people it takes each week to serve this holy place?

One of the jobs I do is come into the office to offer admin support and to print off bulletins for Sunday services. I am a member of the Altar Guild as a “laundry lady!” which means one Sunday a month I take the linens from that week’s services home to wash, iron and return the next Sunday. If you like ironing then that is a quiet ministry that you might want to explore by speaking to Sarah Nation. There certainly are several of you in the pews who may be interested in being involved in a new ministry. I volunteer because it gives me joy and a sense of purpose and commitment to something larger than myself.

How we reach out to our own community and to the wider community is a testament to our faith journey moving us to serve God’s people and share the light placed within each one of us. Our baptismal candidates and newcomers are welcome and encouraged to experience the love of God in this place. Will some of you come on board as a new volunteer?

Contact Nicky Seppala the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@thecathedral.ca or look at the website or contact the church office at reception@thecathedral.ca for information on how you can get involved. Better yet just ask the person beside you if they know where you can serve.

Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers Needed!

The Altar Guild Ministry is seeking volunteers to help care for the beauty and aesthetics of our sacred worship space. This ministry includes tending floral arrangements and preparing the sanctuary for worship services.

The Sunday Greeting Ministry also needs volunteers to welcome congregants before services, distribute bulletins, and assist with collecting and counting donations.

If you are interested in serving in either (or both) of these ministries, please complete and submit our online volunteer application form here.

Lenten Care for the Environment

Lenten Care for the Environment

Reducing our paper usage

During Lent—a season shaped by fasting, reflection, and generosity—we renew our commitment to caring for the earth by reducing our paper use. For the next five Sundays, whenever a hymn appears in Common Praise, the bulletin will list only its title and number. This simple change allows us to reduce each bulletin from...
