Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Dear friends!

Are there knitters in the congregation who would like a simple fall and winter project? Our basket of prayer shawls is empty, and it would be appreciated if all those who can would consider knitting a few. There are plenty of balls of yarn in an office basket that you can access if needed.

This is an important ministry that does not entail meetings, zoom calls, or reports! Just knitted (or crocheted) prayer shawls, about 5 feet long and 18 inches wide, made of acrylic and washable yarn.

The shawls are blessed by one of our clergy and then made available to folks in hospital, palliative care, or anyone needing an extra bit of “Jesus in their life,” as one of our VST students once said.

Contact Andrea Gailus at fagailus@shaw.ca or by telephone at 604-815-7418 for details.

EXPLORING OUR FAITH

Upper Zoom Bible Study Resumes

Upper Zoom Bible Study Resumes

The 2026-2027 season will start on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.

The weekly Upper Zoom Bible Study is held on Thursdays at 7:30 PM. We gather online for a time of learning, reflection, and conversation about the upcoming Sunday's readings, using a method inspired by Lectio Divina. It’s a wonderful opportunity to grow in faith and connect with one another, even from the comfort of home.

All are welcome to BYOB (Bring Your Own Bible) and join!

Please email The Rev. Claude St-Denis, claude@thecathedral.ca, if you would like more information.

Godly Play

Godly Play

Children's spiritual formation

Children (ages about 2.5 - 8) are invited to come downstairs to the Park Room for a Godly Play* lesson. The children's time starts at 10:30am in the Park Room and they will come back upstairs and rejoin parents for communion.

*Godly Play is a beautiful and thoughtful Montessori-informed approach that nurtures children's spirituality as they engage with the stories and sacraments of the church. It was developed by the Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman, an American Anglican priest.

DIOCESAN NEWS & EVENTS

When we're done praying, what then?

When we're done praying, what then?

2026 Truth and Reconciliation Sunday/ Orange Shirt Day Sermon.

Ex 17:1-7; Ps 78:1-4, 12-16; Phil 2:1-13; Mt 21:23-32

Today we heard Matthew's story about priests questioning the authority of Jesus, as well as the parable of the two sons. In these stories, we're looking at the failure of those in authority, first in a material way, in that, as Religion Professor Lim at Middlesbrough College says: "The leaders’ refusal to work in the vineyard signifies their refusal to bear fruit and thus their failure to feed the hungry," and the second way is...

September 29th Edition
Alongside Hope: Light for St. Luke's Hospital

Alongside Hope: Light for St. Luke's Hospital

Thank you for all your support for the solar panels at St. Luke’s Hospital in Nablus, Westbank. The total raised to date is $4238.15. This is from parishioners at the Cathedral and friends and from All Saint’s Ladner, who partnered with us.

It’s a great support as our donation joins donations from parishes across the country with this Alongside Hope (The Anglican Church of Canada’s World Relief and Development Fund) project.

You are welcome to visit the website link in this notice if you would still like to donate. You receive an income tax receipt right away. The website will be open until the end of October.

St. Luke's Hospital is located in Nablus in the West Bank, under the Palestinian Authority. It serves a population of more than 455,000 people, providing life-saving healthcare and operating as a vital maternity hospital for many in the Palestinian community.

Frequent power outages make it difficult to provide consistent, safe medical care. Reliable electricity is essential for neonatal care, oxygen machines, operating rooms, and other critical hospital services.

Bring light to St. Luke's through the gift of the sun.

Alongside Hope is raising funds to install solar panels so the hospital can have a dependable source of electricity. As part of this effort, the Wild Ride campaign is helping to fund 70 solar panels. Each panel costs $865, which includes installation, maintenance, and associated costs.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help provide reliable power for this essential hospital.  If you’d like to support this work, please do so by the end of October 2026 by going to the link below connecting you to the website. You will receive a tax receipt to your email. Thanks to a generous donor, every gift to Light for St. Luke's Wild Ride donations will be matched dollar for dollar.

Donations can be made online here.
