Sharon will begin her ministry in mid-November. She brings exceptional musical gifts, extensive experience in church music, and a commitment to the rich traditions of Anglican worship. Sharon Chu – Assistant Director of MusicSharon Chu is an accomplished conductor, organist, and choral musician whose musical journey has been deeply rooted in the Anglican Church. She holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of British Columbia, where she also completed undergraduate studies in Music and Psychology. During her time at UBC, Sharon conducted several university ensembles, including the Oriana, Vox, and Chamber Choirs. She currently holds leadership roles with the Vancouver Cantonese Choir, Vancouver Xiaoping Chorus, and Vancouver Extracurricular Music Society. Her musical experience spans Hong Kong and Canada, including service as a conductor, organist, and chorister in Anglican churches in both countries. Sharon brings particular strengths in choral leadership, musical formation, and cross-cultural engagement. As Assistant Director of Music, she will help lead the Cathedral’s choirs, support rehearsals and musical programming, and contribute to the ongoing development of the Cathedral’s liturgical and musical life. Looking Ahead“Music is central to the Cathedral’s worship, identity, and mission. I am particularly excited about the breadth of experience, diverse perspectives, and fresh energy that Sharon brings to our community. Her gifts will help us continue to build upon our rich musical traditions while exploring new possibilities for music as an expression of faith, beauty, and welcome.” — The Very Reverend Christopher A. Pappas, Dean and Rector We look forward to welcoming Sharon into the Cathedral community and invite everyone to extend a warm welcome as she begin her new ministries. |

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Dear friends! Are there knitters in the congregation who would like a simple fall and winter project? Our basket of prayer shawls is empty, and it would be appreciated if all those who can would consider knitting a few. There are plenty of balls of yarn in an office basket that you can access if needed. This is an important ministry that does not entail meetings, zoom calls, or reports! Just knitted (or crocheted) prayer shawls, about 5 feet long and 18 inches wide, made of acrylic and washable yarn. The shawls are blessed by one of our clergy and then made available to folks in hospital, palliative care, or anyone needing an extra bit of “Jesus in their life,” as one of our VST students once said. Contact Andrea Gailus at fagailus@shaw.ca or by telephone at 604-815-7418 for details. The Cathedral has been gifted a generous donation of yarn, wool, embroidery kits, patterns, and needles. We are inviting crafters to come by and take some home. There is yarn suitable for prayer shawls, as well as plenty of materials for lovely garments and other projects. You are welcome to drop by the Cathedral office between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on weekdays to take a look and collect what you'd like. Any remaining supplies will be gathered at the beginning of November and donated to a non-profit organization. |

Alongside Hope: Light for St. Luke's Hospital
Thank you for all your support for the solar panels at St. Luke’s Hospital in Nablus, Westbank. The total raised to date is $4838.15. This is from parishioners at the Cathedral and friends and from All Saint’s Ladner, who partnered with us. Thank you to everyone! This is the final week to make your donations through the website here toward this vital Alongside Hope work for the solar panels. Donations will be gratefully accepted until the end of October. It’s a great support as our donation joins donations from parishes across the country with this Alongside Hope (The Anglican Church of Canada’s World Relief and Development Fund) project. You are welcome to visit the website link in this notice if you would still like to donate. You receive an income tax receipt right away. The website will be open until the end of October. St. Luke's Hospital is located in Nablus in the West Bank, under the Palestinian Authority. It serves a population of more than 455,000 people, providing life-saving healthcare and operating as a vital maternity hospital for many in the Palestinian community. Frequent power outages make it difficult to provide consistent, safe medical care. Reliable electricity is essential for neonatal care, oxygen machines, operating rooms, and other critical hospital services. Bring light to St. Luke's through the gift of the sun. Alongside Hope is raising funds to install solar panels so the hospital can have a dependable source of electricity. As part of this effort, the Wild Ride campaign is helping to fund 70 solar panels. Each panel costs $865, which includes installation, maintenance, and associated costs. Every donation, no matter the size, will help provide reliable power for this essential hospital. If you’d like to support this work, please do so by the end of October 2026 by going to the link below connecting you to the website. You will receive a tax receipt to your email. Thanks to a generous donor, every gift to Light for St. Luke's Wild Ride donations will be matched dollar for dollar. Donations can be made online here. |
