The Story of Christ Church Cathedral New Zealand's Journey After the 2011 Earthquake - Sunday, March 22, 2026

Registration Closes at 9am on Friday, March 20th

Natural emergencies seem to be in the news all too frequently these days: earthquakes, wild fires, flooding, mudslides, extreme rain and wind events — the list goes on. We all know that we are supposed to be prepared, but are we?

Please join us for lunch to hear the compelling story about the impact the 2010–2011 Christchurch, New Zealand earthquakes had on their Cathedral and congregation.

Chris Oldham, from Christ Church Cathedral (NZ), will be joining us by Zoom to share his first hand experience of what it was like to be in their Cathedral on February 22, 2011 when the damaging earthquake occurred — and how their congregation continues to respond with faith and resilience.

Sunday, March 22, 2026
12:15pm in the Parish Hall
Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver

Please take a moment to register here so that we can ensure to have lunch ready for you.

We have a limited number of spaces available for members of the Cathedral and other Diocesan parishes to attend in-person. You will receive an email — human generated, so it may take a day or two — confirming your registration.

In Loving Memory

Moira Morgan, ODNW

Moira Morgan, ODNW

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Moira Morgan, ODNW. Moira passed on the afternoon of Monday March 16th after a short infection due to complications from young-onset Alzheimer’s disease. She returned to the arms of God with deep peace, surrounded by her loving family.

Moira was an incredible force for compassion and goodness in a world that needed it desperately. She served the world and the Church with courage, gentleness, and steadfastness for many years, offering both music and leadership from her human resources background. In retirement, she enjoyed travelling the world with her many friends and family members, delighting in new sights, sounds, and souls. She was a loving and devoted partner and mother, as well as an ardent auntie and soul friend to more people than we could ever name.

Her family is thankful for the love and prayers of the faithful during her years-long battle with dementia. For the moment we ask for privacy as we navigate a world without our beautiful, powerful Moira. Condolences both physical and electronic can be received by the office at Christ Church Cathedral (reception@thecathedral.ca).

A service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, the date of which will be announced promptly.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia are most appreciated.

Please keep Ron, Clare (Paul), and Moira’s family and friends in your prayers.

Reducing our paper usage

During Lent—a season shaped by fasting, reflection, and generosity—we renew our commitment to caring for the earth by reducing our paper use.
