Primate to Preside and Dean of Canterbury to Preach on October 26Longtime Cathedral Member Honoured with National Award On Sunday, October 26, Christ Church Cathedral will host a memorable and historic liturgy: Archbishop Shane Parker, the newly installed Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, will preside at the 10:30 a.m. Choral Eucharist, and during the service he will present Jane Osler with the 2025 Anglican Award of Merit, the national Church’s highest lay honour. The Very Rev. David Monteith, Dean of Canterbury, will preach at both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services that day. Jane Osler was among five lay recipients announced in March 2025 by the Council of General Synod. The Anglican Award of Merit is conferred on “lay people who have made outstanding contributions toward the life and work of the Church.” In announcing the 2025 recipients, the Anglican Journal noted that Osler “has devoted … time and effort to our beloved national church” alongside others honoured in dioceses across Canada. A Feminine Touch: Christ Church’s Early OrganistsSubmitted on behalf of Stephen Wright The earliest history we have of Christ Church was written in 1939 by Miss Majorie Allan, which lists the church’s first organists and choir directors as follows: F.J. Advent Series With the Archbishop
Spend four evenings in Advent taking a journey with the pilgrim characters of the Advent season: Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, and John the Baptist. Archbishop John will offer teaching on their stories and the Prologue from the Gospel of John. The sessions will include small group discussion and use scripture, image, song, and poetry to help us deepen our own pilgrim journeys as we search for Emmanuel. This series takes place on Zoom. Men's BreakfastSparking Conversation, Sparking Growth Sometimes it's difficult for men to find safe spaces in which to explore deep questions of life and spirit. The Cathedral invites all men to join in monthly breakfasts, alternating between in-person in the church hall and virtually via Zoom. Godly PlayChildren's Ministry During the 10:30 AM service, children are invited to come downstairs to the Park Room for a Godly Play* lesson. They will come back upstairs and rejoin parents for communion. *Godly Play is a beautiful and thoughtful Montessori-informed approach that nurtures children's spirituality as they engage with the stories and sacraments of the church. It was developed by Dr. Jerome Berryman, an American Anglican priest. |

Unpacking Our FaithLunch and Learn This Sunday, October 26: Unpacking our faith is canceled - join us for the celebration! Join us on Sundays at 12:30 PM in the Park Room (or the Chancel if the Park Room is booked. The Chancel is at the front of the church, near the altar). Bring your lunch or buy your lunch in between coffee hour and the start of our discussion group. Revs. Areeta and Claude will be facilitating small, informal group conversations about the Christian faith, spiritual practices, the Anglican tradition, and more. Morning PrayerEvery Weekday from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM Are you looking for a way to deepen your spiritual life? Every weekday morning at 9:30 AM the Cathedral holds Morning Prayer. We will follow a simple liturgy with a Psalm, a Reading, Prayer and Silence. This form of regular, daily prayer is used in the Anglican Communion and a number of other church denominations. Upper Zoom Bible Study
The weekly Upper Zoom Bible Study resumes on Thursdays at 7:30 PM. We gather online for a time of learning, reflection, and conversation about the upcoming Sunday's readings, using a method inspired by Lectio Divina. It’s a wonderful opportunity to grow in faith and connect with one another, even from the comfort of home. All are welcome to BYOB (Bring Your Own Bible) and join! Please email The Rev. Centering Prayer WorkshopA Community of Practice The Cathedral will be hosting a Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop, from 9:30 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, November 8th. Participants are invited to also attend four continuing sessions which will be held from 7 PM to 8:30 PM at the Cathedral on Tuesday Nov 18th, Nov 25th, Dec 9th and Dec 16th. The suggested cost of the workshop is $225. This includes the workshop (refreshments & lunch will be provided), community of practice continuing sessions and a paperback copy of Open Mind, Open Heart by Thomas Keating. On Sunday, November 9, 2025, we will be remembering loved ones who have passed away. If you would like the name of a deceased loved one added to the Scroll of Remembrance that will be placed on the Altar, please complete our Google Form here. (Deadline for submissions is Monday, November 3, 2025) Those who have had their memorial or funeral at the Cathedral between November 1, 2024 and October 31, 2025, will be remembered in the Prayers of the People. |

Update on Anglican Rector Emilie Smith’s Pilgrimage to COP30Submitted on behalf of Cathedral CATS On August 16th, Anglican Rector Emilie Smith (St. Barnabas in NW) began a pilgrimage to COP30 in Belém, Brazil. She left from Coast Salish Territories and is travelling in a green, sustainable way by bus, boat, bike, train, and burro to attend the conference. Emilie's pilgrimage is focusing on communities whose lives are being impacted by considerable climate change. Alongside Hope: Kenya ProjectWomen's Agricultural Partnership Alongside Hope: Anglicans and partners working for change in Canada and around the world (formerly PWRDF). Anglican Church of Canada Fund for Development and Relief. Christ Church Cathedral’s Alongside Hope Committee with Jeremiah Mwangi as CCC’s Coordinator (a committee of 8, with 5 folks from Kenya), chose this Kenya Agricultural Women’s Partnership to focus on, as an educational fundraiser at CCC from September until November. We will have a special Kenyan dessert/coffee gathering and presentation after the 10:30 AM servce on November 16, 2025.
