Stuart Mennigke was born in South Africa. After completing undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering, he studied theology at St. Paul’s College in Grahamstown, was ordained in 1980, and served in the Diocese of Johannesburg. In 1990, he moved to KwaZulu-Natal to establish and direct a department of Clergy and Lay Training for the Diocese of Natal while also working in corporate leadership development across Southern Africa.
In 2011, Stuart, Jane, Francis, and Luke moved to Canada in response to a Canadian government call for spiritual workers in remote regions. He served initially in the Diocese of Athabasca and subsequently in the Diocese of New Westminster.
Stuart has served as an Honorary Assistant Priest at Christ Church Cathedral since 2014. During this time, he also established and coordinated a Department of Leadership Education for the Christian Labour Association, concluding that work at the end of the summer of 2026.
He trained in spiritual accompaniment and retreat-giving with St. Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre in Wales. Additionally, he and Jane collaborated with the Bishopscourt Provincial team to establish Institutes for the Study of Spirituality across South African dioceses.
Stuart earned a Master of Education through a joint program between UWC Cape Town and UBC Vancouver, and a Doctor of Education from UBC Vancouver, with a PhD focus on leadership education and policy. He maintains a deep passion for education, training, and leadership development across all disciplines.
At the Cathedral, Stuart participates in various liturgies with the clergy team, helps lead the men’s breakfast program, and is developing a new leadership program centered on spiritual coaching within the Cathedral and the wider city.
