For our next film, we will be showing Sentimental Value (2025; 2hr 14m) which won the Gran Prix at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Directed by acclaimed Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier and starring Stellan Skarsgård, the film follows the Borg family: sisters Nora, an actress, and Agnes, and their estranged father, Gustav, a celebrated filmmaker who was largely absent while they were growing up.
When Gustav offers Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film, she is faced with a difficult choice. Can she accept the role—and perhaps reconnect with her father—or is the pain of the past too deep?
The film explores themes of intergenerational trauma, guilt, love, and despair, while raising a difficult question: Is complete reconciliation ever possible?
Please stay, if you able, for a discussion after the film.
