Today's liturgy presents us with two sharply contrasting reactions to God's answer to the prayers of God's own people. On the one hand, the Gospel offers the very strong denial, by Peter, of the coming death of Jesus at the hands of the very people he came to save. On the other hand, the first reading presents Moses as the one who answers the incredible call he is receiving from God with an inquisitive openness. Two different approaches to one simple question: what happens when God's plans don't fit mine?
