Christ Church Cathedral is creating a Strategic Plan. Why now? The Dean and Trustees have determined that since the pandemic is over, the Parish has gained some stability and is growing, new members from diverse backgrounds are joining and baptisms are a regular feature at the 10:30 Worship Service – it is now time look forward and plan for the future.
What is a Strategic Plan? A Strategic Plan is an assessment and a plan for addressing the Cathedral’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and future challenges. It asks questions about who we are now as a congregation, what are our needs and wishes for our Cathedral life and how we can best serve out our Christian mission in the Parish, the Diocese, and the society of which we are a part.
What steps are we taking to create this Strategic Plan?
· First, to determine who we are as a congregation today, we’ve undertaken a Census, and the results are out. [Go here to find them.]
· Next, we’ve begun a Future Outlook Survey to ask for everyone’s desires and hopes for the Cathedral’s next few years. The Survey is currently underway. [Go here to participate.]
· Building on the Census and the Future Outlook Survey, we will then be meeting in facilitated small groups – “Listening Circles” – in June, to probe more deeply into our hopes and dreams and the challenges and aspirations in addressing them. What are our goals and, since we can’t do everything at once, how to we prioritize them?
· Over the summer the Steering Committee will meet with the Diocese, the City and downtown organizations and other partners to see how our plans might align with theirs.
· The Committee will then review the results of this input and will develop a Draft Strategic Plan. This will translate themes into goals and practical objectives and identify success measures to mark our progress. The Plan will suggest how we all, clergy, staff, and parishioners, can be involved
· This fall, the Draft Strategic Plan will be presented to the whole Parish, Parish Council, and Trustees and Wardens in another round of small groups for feedback. Some revisions may be made.
· Once finalized the Strategic Plan with the 2026 budget, will go to the Cathedral’s Annual General Meeting (Vestry) in February 2026 for adoption and implementation over the next three to five years.
Why should everyone participate? It is of utmost importance that the whole parish be involved in the development of the Cathedral’s future. A Strategic Plan is guided by the input and success depends on everybody understanding the Plan and feeling that it is theirs.
