Dear friends,

I am writing to share with you that Bishop John Stephens has named the Rev. Marnie Peterson as the next rector of St. Anne’s Anglican Church - Steveston, effective September 16, 2021.

As many of you have experienced, among other things Marnie has a great ability to bring people together, read and respond to the needs of a community, and empower lay leadership - all with a fine tuned pastoral sensitivity.  I have been blessed in my time at the Cathedral to work with Marnie, to witness this pastoral ability in action and learn about the community through seeing her in action. While I’m sad to say goodbye to Marnie, I am proud that through this appointment the Cathedral is again sharing with the wider diocese the pastoral leadership that was formed here, through this community.

It can be tempting to think of the Cathedral as a destination or prize for clergy and believe that our clergy should stay here forever and ever, amen. But as the Cathedral of the diocese we are also called to be a resource for the wider diocese, to form clergy in our radical inclusiveness and restless inquisitiveness as we carry out God’s mission in the world.

Marnie’s last Sunday at the Cathedral will be September 12, 2021

In the days and weeks ahead I will share details about how we will celebrate Marnie’s time at the Cathedral.

I can share with you that when Marnie moves on to her new role  the Rev. Jonathan Pinkney will take over as priest attached to provide pastoral guidance to the St. Brigid’s congregation.

Marnie has also been involved in several other ministries, and chaplaincies to those ministries will be announced in the weeks ahead.

 Blessings,

 Dean Christopher A. Pappas
