When we celebrate Pentecost, we are not merely celebrating a historical event; we are opening and submitting ourselves to the power and leading of the Holy Spirit, just as the disciples did on the Day of Pentecost. John Owen, in his book The Holy Spirit, observed that “The work of the Holy Spirit is to bring to completion what God had already begun through Jesus.” This means that what Jesus began through His life, death, resurrection, and ascension is now being carried forward by the Spirit working in us and through us. What does the Holy do in us and through us?
