It's Advent and that means only 1 thing, getting ready for Christmas, both as a family and in and of ourselves during this chaotic time of year. Here are some ways you can get ready at home together, in case you missed our Advent 1 Calendars and Wreath Making!
If you missed out on our Family Mason Jar Advent Calendars, don't worry, you can make your own at home! This year we have 2 options! This years new addition adapted from the Salt Project, is a Mason Jar Advent Calendar, which involves making labels from a template. For this, please email Lauren to get a copy. I suggest as you complete these, to hang them on some branches from your garden or a local park, and either string them up or put them in vase, or indeed put them on your Christmas tree as you complete them!
The second is a little more prep heavy, but worth it, included below:"Paper Bag Advent Calender" our own resource which you can download and make at home:
Here is a short introduction from our Children, Youth, and Families Minister, Lauren Odile Pinkney, on this resource:
I have been searching for a while to find an advent resource that contains some simple little festive things to do as a family that is accessible for all families who maybe don’t have the capacity to do deep talks every day, or crafts everyday, but has a sprinkling of them. I also wanted families to have some prompts to think about God in our lives and prepare, in such a busy time, for this Holy Season. I am hoping that this resource will bring peace, joy, and heart to an often hectic season and will bring your family together.
Ever Wondered what this Advent Wreath thing is all about? Maybe like me, you called it a crown or just didn't know what these 5 candles meant... If you couldn't make our Advent Wreath Making, below is an infographic about what an Advent Wreath is and what it means, it will also give you instructions for how to make your own at home!
Also below are some Advent Litanies for Families to use as you light an Advent wreath each week at home. These special weekly prayers have been adapted from the Salt Project in a helpful booklet you print at home. And using slightly more trauma-informed language.
And if all that wasn't enough, here are our in-house made Nativity colouring sheets featuring gender-neutral Magi! Or try our Kindess Bingo to encourage kids to pass on the love all through the season.
