With its roots in South Africa, Theatre in the Round was created last year here in Vancouver by theatre artist Francis Mennigke. It will be presenting its inaugural Canadian show at Christ Church Cathedral next month, with the world premiere of FLY BOY. This one-person multi-character theatrical performance uses physical theatre, puppetry and mask work to tell its tales. Written and performed by Francis Mennigke, FLY BOY is a metaphorical story about masculinity in transformation. For all ages and all genders, it is in the spirit of Theatre in the Round’s mission to “stimulate people’s curiosity”. A post-performance dialogue will be offered to complement the hour-long theatre piece.
Francis has been performing for two decades primarily as a solo performing artist, making one-person multi-character shows. His unique creations have been lauded and applauded both in Canada and South Africa.
